Thanks for another great posting. Can you tell me why the repeated 6-note melody from Back Street is so familiar whenI've never heard this score before?? Please put me out of my misery!!

You're welcome.
It's quite possible it is based on a classical composers piece of music.
Skinner sometimes incorporated these into his scores.
Hope that helps a little bit :)

You know, the more I think about it, I think you're right - it IS a phrase from a classical piece, I just can't place it.

Frank skinner , as always taking many Time his inspiration from the classical Composer, and specially Frederic Chopin, Since the music of frank's skinner as at many time composed for dramatical films or melodramatical one. But please don't think there are somes plagia, All the variation of the classical themes are written by Frank skinner himself, remember Back Street, The theme coming for a nocturne by Chopin. But how Beautifull he make all thoses variations on thtat theme This where absolutly great. Skinner are a verry good composer and he take mostly time the very know directoer Jospeh Gersherson to direct his scores. Skinner Working many years for the Unlversal Films, And some of the most beautifull Scores comming from this Label, Remember the Films of Rock Hudson, Susan hayward, jane Wyman, There are a lot of music from this great composer , but unfortunatelly not issued on a label CD but maby on LP. Such beautifull score as : Midnight Lace, My Man Godfrey , Tammy and The bachelor , Aways All Boats, The far Country, Bend of The River, There are just somes where I know There where released on LP. I'm Happy to find That's there are some peoples who's are still interesting in the worlfd of films soundtracks.

As Frank Skinner was my Uncle, I admire not only his musical talent, but his personal one as well. He was a very talented, and humble man, who was greatly respected by his peers, as well as everyone who was fortunate enough to know him personally. My favorite of his musical scores was from "The Man from the Alamo" starring Glenn Ford. Of course, the "Magnificent Obsession" score was not only award winning, but beautiful.

@scratchy --just came across your response, and forgive me for the delay. Frank Skinner was one of Hollywood's best composers in my book. Always memorable scores, and from what you've said, a fine gentleman indeed. :)

Frank Skinner was born in my home town of Meredosia, IL. He came from a musical family who played concerts in our town park during his younger years. The bandstand that was donated by the Skinner family still sits in our village park and used for various activities.
Frank's sister (Berinice Skinner - Edlen) was my music teacher and school principal when I was in grades 1-5. She was also a good friend of the family.

That's the Brahms Symphony in BACK STREET, not Chopin's Nocturne.
